Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for an experienced Social Worker to join the Cheltenham & North Cotswold Recovery Team. This part-time, substantive role is based at Leckhampton Lodge, a community hub that promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and positive interface working among recovery and community teams.
The Recovery Team delivers secondary care services for adults of working age experiencing severe mental illness and complex mental health needs. Their approach is grounded in the principles of Recovery and Social Inclusion, striving for excellent, safe, and effective care within local communities.
This opportunity suits a Social Worker with a background in adult mental health, particularly those familiar with enduring mental health challenges and community-based care coordination.
Key Responsibilities of the Social Worker Position
Care Coordination and Caseload Management

Manage and coordinate a designated caseload in line with Care Programme Approach (CPA) policy.

Conduct statutory strengths-based assessments to personalize care plans based on the Care Act.

Regularly reassess service users’ needs and update support plans accordingly.
Statutory and Legal Compliance

Apply a sound understanding of the Mental Health Act (MHA), Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Care Act, Human Rights Act, and Housing Act in daily practice.

Provide specialist advice and consultation to the team on legal frameworks affecting social care provision.
Service Provision and Collaboration

Arrange or commission services to meet assessed needs, including those outside Gloucestershire when necessary.

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, external agencies, voluntary organizations, and carers to ensure holistic support.

Maintain accurate records using IT systems and comply with safeguarding vulnerable adults protocols.
Service Development and Integration

Contribute to ongoing service developments within Gloucestershire Health and Care Trust’s Social Care Hub initiative.

Support integration efforts between health and social care services to improve user experience and outcomes.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Required Professional Credentials
-
Registered Social Worker with Social Work England or equivalent professional body.

Evidence of successful completion of Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) or preceptorship program if under one year of experience.

Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
Professional Experience
-
Proven experience working with adults experiencing severe and enduring mental health conditions.

Practical knowledge of community management of complex mental health needs and recovery-focused practice.

Familiarity with Early Intervention, Primary Care, Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment (CRHT), and social inclusion principles.

Experience collaborating with external agencies, including voluntary sector organizations.
Desirable Skills and Additional Qualifications

Formal post-registration training or learning in relevant social care fields.

Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent IT qualification.
