About the Role
The Pension Finance Manager will play a vital role in overseeing the accounting function related to the University’s pension arrangements. Reporting directly to the Head of Pensions and Payroll, your responsibilities will include the preparation and analysis of financial and management information, focusing particularly on the Oxford University Staff Pension Scheme (OSPS).
You will work closely with the trustees of OSPS, providing financial support and ensuring accurate contribution and salary schedules for approximately 11,000 active members. The role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong accounting capabilities, and the ability to manage financial reporting for one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.
Key Responsibilities

Pension Scheme Accounting: Oversee the accounting functions of OSPS, ensuring accurate recording of contributions and expenditures, particularly for USS contributions.

Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial and management reports for OSPS, supporting the trustees with crucial decision-making.

Contribution & Salary Schedules: Prepare timely and accurate contribution and salary schedules required by USS for 11,000 active members.

Financial Oversight: Manage the timely entry of payment and receipt data for OSPS, maintaining thorough records and ensuring compliance.

Team Supervision: Supervise the Support and Finance Administrator to ensure the efficient and accurate entry of financial data.

Ad Hoc Financial Support: Provide additional financial support and analysis as required, responding to emerging needs or challenges.
About You
The ideal candidate for this role will possess a blend of technical financial skills, experience in pension scheme accounting, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. You should be proactive, highly organized, and able to manage competing priorities under pressure.
Key Qualifications & Skills

Professional Qualification: Qualified or nearly qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent professional experience.

Pension Scheme Accounting: In-depth knowledge of pension scheme accounting, including regulatory and reporting requirements.

Corporate/Organizational Experience: Proven experience in accounting within corporate or large organizational settings.

Financial Systems Expertise: Proficient in financial systems, including advanced Excel skills and familiarity with platforms such as Oracle, Compendia, People XD (CoreHR), and other HRIS systems.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with the capability to explain complex financial concepts to non-specialists.

Team Collaboration: Experience working collaboratively in small, cross-functional teams, and building productive relationships with stakeholders across different levels.

Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing financial reporting, schedules, and records.

Time Management: Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities effectively.
