Job Summary
Are you an experienced Operations Manager looking for an exciting new challenge in healthcare management? Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and strategic leader to oversee Women’s Services, with a primary focus on Maternity and Gynaecology.
As an Operations Manager, you will work closely with the Divisional Director of Operations to ensure high-quality clinical services, operational efficiency, and effective collaboration with healthcare partners. Your role will be vital in enhancing service delivery, performance management, and patient care.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Management & Service Delivery
- Lead and manage Women’s Services, ensuring efficient operational performance and high-quality patient care.
- Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the NHS Trust’s overall vision.
- Work collaboratively with clinicians, senior leadership, and external healthcare partners to optimize service delivery.
Operational Performance & Financial Management
- Oversee budget management, ensuring cost-effective service delivery while maximizing income streams.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive service improvement.
- Ensure compliance with NHS policies, safety regulations, and governance frameworks.
Team Leadership & Workforce Development
- Manage a large multi-disciplinary team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Develop staff training programs to enhance skillsets and career progression.
- Promote workforce well-being and retention strategies to maintain a motivated and engaged team.
Cross-Divisional Responsibilities
- Provide operational cross-cover for Children’s Services when required.
- Support wider divisional priorities, including patient flow optimization and capacity management.
- Represent the NHS Trust at regional and national healthcare forums.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Master’s Degree or equivalent management experience.
- Recognized management qualification.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
Desirable Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Health Service Management.
- Research and audit experience in healthcare settings.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in managing healthcare services at a senior level.
- Demonstrated success in budgetary management and financial planning.
- Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex workforce dynamics.
- Ability to analyze and utilize complex healthcare data for service improvements.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in public sector healthcare and NHS transplant services.
- Involvement in cross-institutional partnerships and STP (Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships).
- Experience in hospital bed management and pandemic procedures.
