Job Summary

The Management Accountant role at Powys Teaching Health Board is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced individual to play a pivotal part in providing financial management support across the Health Board. Key Responsibilities

As a senior member of the Finance team, you will be responsible for the following areas:

  • Leading the Management Accountancy Team: Oversee the team responsible for a specific service area, ensuring efficient financial operations. You will manage staff, systems, and procedures while maintaining professionalism and financial integrity.

  • Financial Planning and Reporting: Prepare and manage the Health Board’s annual budget, monthly financial reports, and contribute to financial monitoring returns to Welsh Government (WG).

  • Financial Advice and Business Case Support: Provide expert financial advice to senior managers and offer clear, actionable financial insights for policy decisions and development proposals.

  • Strategic Financial Management: Develop financial plans and communicate complex financial data to stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment with Health Board objectives.

  • Maintain Financial Systems: Take a leadership role in the maintenance and development of the Health Board’s financial systems, ensuring compliance with NHS financial guidelines and best practices.

  • Liaison with Service Areas: Act as the main point of contact between the finance department and service areas, offering financial guidance and support.

  • Staff Management and Development: Lead and motivate your team, driving performance and ensuring that the staff has the necessary skills and training to excel in their roles.


Key Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • CCAB Qualification (fully qualified and participating in CPD), or equivalent work-based experience.

Experience Required:

  • Extensive experience in financial management within the NHS.

  • Proven ability to interpret complex financial data and present it in an accessible format to diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrable experience in providing financial advice and training to non-financial staff.

  • Strong experience in budgetary control and financial planning in a large, complex organization.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to challenge and negotiate effectively with external bodies on funding issues affecting the Health Board.

  • Proficiency in IT systems and data analysis, including the use of financial software tools.

  • Proven track record of staff management, with the ability to motivate and influence teams to deliver high-performance outcomes.

  • Fluency in Welsh is desirable but not essential for this role.
