Main Duties of the Job
As an Income & Contracts Analyst at RJAH, your key responsibilities will include:
1. Support the Head of Income, Costing, and Contracts

Assist in producing the Trust’s monthly clinical income position, ensuring accurate financial reporting.

Oversee the update of the general ledger with monthly income performance during month-end closures.

Support the preparation of contract monitoring reports, distributing them to commissioners.
2. Revenue and Contract Management
-
Respond to commissioner queries promptly, ensuring a high level of customer service and efficiency.

Supervise the Contracts Officer and support the development of systems to maximize income and minimize financial risks.

Develop and maintain a paperless system for recording, monitoring, and billing contract activity.
3. Analysis and Reporting

Perform monthly clinical income analysis and prepare reports for the Costing team’s Service Line Reporting (SLR) and Patient-Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS).

Monitor income performance trends and ensure accurate reporting of financial data.

Work closely with clinical coding teams to validate data accuracy.
4. Collaboration with Stakeholders

Collaborate with senior finance staff to maintain an income risk provision.

Respond rapidly to queries from internal stakeholders, informing healthcare plans and assessing financial risk.

Coordinate with external bodies, such as NHS England, for monthly financial reporting and ad-hoc data collections.
5. Compliance and Regulatory Updates

Stay updated on NHS payment system changes and related guidance, ensuring compliance with chargeable activities.

Assist in benchmarking data submissions and the evaluation of NHS tariffs to ensure the Trust remains competitive and compliant.
6. Financial Strategy and Long-term Planning

Support the preparation of long-term financial planning, assisting with external financial returns and annual reports.

Provide advice on remedial actions when discrepancies in activity data or income performance arise.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor non-contracted activity (NCA) to maximize income and minimize risk.
2. Contract Reporting and Query Resolution

Produce commissioner income reports for monthly analysis, ensuring performance aligns with contract values.

Lead efforts in answering commissioner queries in a timely manner.
3. Income Risk Management

Help develop systems for managing financial risks, especially related to non-contracted activity.

Liaise with senior finance staff to maintain the Trust’s income risk provision and manage potential discrepancies.
4. Financial Systems Management

Lead the development of systems that track contract activity, ensuring they are in line with NHS financial policies.

Keep abreast of changes to NHS payment systems and ensure compliance.
5. Data Quality and Contract Monitoring

Work with the Information Team to address data quality issues related to commissioner contracts.

Manage the monthly assessment of Partially Completed Spells, ensuring accurate inclusion in the income position.
6. External Reporting

Oversee the submission of benchmarking data to external bodies, ensuring the Trust’s competitive standing in the NHS market.

Provide feedback on NHS tariffs and participate in the Department of Health’s annual sense check.
Qualifications
Essential
-
CCAB Qualified or Part Qualified, with a commitment to finish studies, or Qualified by Experience.

At least 3 years of experience in a finance role.
Desirable

Educated to degree level in a related subject.

Experience in an NHS finance role, specifically within Costing, Income, or Contracting teams.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential

Specialist knowledge of finance acquired through experience and/or qualifications.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to handle complex financial and non-financial data.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with a strong understanding of financial modeling and analysis.
