Key Responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant Role
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work alongside healthcare professionals to provide direct care to patients. Your primary duties include:
- Providing direct patient care: Support patients with their daily activities and assist with personal care as required.
- Monitoring and reporting: Keep track of patients’ vital signs and report changes to the medical team.
- Supporting patient mobility: Help patients with their movement, ensuring their comfort and safety at all times.
- Assisting with medical procedures: Depending on your training and experience, you may assist in basic medical procedures such as recording a 12-lead ECG.
- Maintaining patient records: Accurately record patient care activities in line with healthcare regulations and Trust policies.
- Ensuring patient comfort: Provide emotional support and help create a comfortable environment for patients to aid in their recovery.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll make a difference every day by supporting patients through their journey to recovery.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
To apply for this role, you must meet the following essential requirements:

Education:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).
- NVQ Level 3 in Acute Care (or be working towards this qualification).

Experience:
- Substantive experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in direct patient care.
- Desirable: Previous experience in an acute hospital setting is an advantage.

Skills:
- Essential: Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Desirable: Skills such as cannulation are a plus, though not required.
