Job Summary
The University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking a motivated Advanced Commercial Analyst to join their dynamic team. This critical role involves providing expertise in data analysis and reporting to improve operational delivery and support commissioning and costing processes within the Trust. As part of your responsibilities, you’ll manage a team of Commercial Analysts, offering leadership, guidance, and support. Key Responsibilities
As an Advanced Commercial Analyst, you will be expected to:

Conduct Complex Analysis: Work with internal and external data, identifying trends and discrepancies, while providing actionable insights to Trust staff. Your work will support business planning, service development, and decision-making across multiple departments.

Reporting and Data Quality: Extract, process, and analyze complex datasets to produce accurate, actionable reports. Address any data quality issues and provide interpretations that support operational and strategic planning.

Proactive Analysis: Suggest new information reports, scenario modeling, and forecasting trends, which will contribute to future work programs and service delivery improvements.

Lead Service Development: You’ll drive the development of new processes and policies to improve operational efficiency, ensuring they are well-documented and aligned with industry standards.

Collaboration and Liaison: Work closely with operational teams, commissioners, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of information and adapt data requirements as needed.

Forecasting and Capacity Planning: Analyze trends to forecast patient activity, and ensure that assumptions used in business modeling are discussed and agreed upon with commissioners.

Scenario Testing and Decision-Making: Support predictive analysis and scenario testing to assist in decision-making by performance and operational teams.

Support National Cost Collection: Help ensure the Trust meets national deadlines for cost data collection and adheres to the National Tariff Payment System.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
-
Strong technical expertise in SQL, SSRS, and Excel, or the ability to quickly learn similar technologies.

Demonstrable experience working in complex environments, with a focus on data analysis and reporting.

NHS experience would be an advantage but is not mandatory.
Desirable

Experience with advanced reporting tools such as MS Access or SQL Server.

Knowledge of NHS-specific data systems and processes, including National Tariff Payment System and National Data Requirements.
Skills and Abilities

Advanced Analytical Skills: Ability to work with complex datasets and interpret findings to support service development and decision-making.

Communication Skills: Comfortable presenting complex data to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Able to provide guidance and recommendations on data usage and interpretation.

Problem-Solving: Strong skills in identifying issues with data quality and proposing practical solutions.

Leadership: Experience managing teams and providing mentorship and guidance in a commercial or analytical setting.
