Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant at Unity City Academy, your main focus will be to support students in the ‘Base’ in their learning and personal development. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Supporting Student Learning

  • Assist teachers in planning and adapting lessons to ensure they meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Help students access the curriculum and participate in learning activities.
  • Promote independence and encourage active participation in lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one support or work with small groups, focusing on improving students’ learning outcomes.

2. Supporting Student Well-Being

  • Support students in developing self-esteem and confidence, fostering a sense of achievement and inclusion.
  • Be a positive role model and provide emotional support to students, particularly those facing challenges in school life.
  • Implement strategies to encourage positive behavior, helping students overcome barriers to learning.

3. Collaboration with Teachers and Staff

  • Work closely with teachers to plan and review individualized learning plans.
  • Support the classroom teacher in behavior management and helping create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to discuss student progress and challenges.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about working with young people and helping them achieve their full potential. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

Key Qualifications

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English or GCSE Grade C/4 and above in both subjects.
  • Experience working with young people or in an educational setting.
  • Willingness to complete Teaching Assistant training (if not already trained).

  • A genuine passion for working with students and making a difference in their lives.
  • Resilience and the ability to stay positive when supporting students facing challenges.
  • Flexibility and compassion, adapting to the unique needs of each student.
