Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Specialist Data Analyst with a focus on Power BI to support Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) in leveraging data to improve patient care and services. This role will play a pivotal part in maximising the potential of local and national data, enhancing data analysis efforts across the organisation.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with significant experience in project leadership, and expertise in developing and presenting data insights using the Microsoft Power Platform, particularly Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background with proven IT skills, including proficiency in SQL, Power BI, and relational databases.
Key Responsibilities
As a Specialist Data Analyst, your role will encompass a variety of key responsibilities, with a primary focus on maximising the value of data across DHCW. Below are the core duties of the position:
Data Analysis and Reporting

Lead the processing and analysis of highly complex, sensitive data, delivering accurate business intelligence and supporting data-driven decisions for all DHCW directorates and stakeholders.

Develop and present detailed, actionable insights and reports on data quality, highlighting potential areas of concern using Power BI and other Microsoft Power Platform tools.

Conduct innovative analyses that improve data understanding and quality across DHCW, ensuring the delivery of meaningful reports.
Power BI Leadership

Serve as the subject matter expert on Power BI, ensuring the platform’s usage is standardised across the organisation.

Drive the adoption and implementation of best practices for Power BI development, ensuring the production of reliable, high-quality reports and dashboards.

Lead the development and rollout of an Assurance Framework for Power BI development, overseeing its application and guiding staff at all levels.
Collaboration and Support

Provide expert advice on data-related matters to both internal and external customers, ensuring a deep understanding of analytical requirements and data definitions.

Offer mentorship and guidance to junior staff members, promoting their professional growth and helping them improve their analytical skills.
Strategic Data Planning

Influence the development of datasets that align with DHCW’s organisational needs, ensuring data structures support evolving business intelligence initiatives.

Play a strategic role in enhancing data infrastructure and ensuring that data platforms align with the needs of the directorates within DHCW.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
Essential Qualifications

A degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.

Continuous professional development in data analysis and technology.
Experience

Proven expertise in using Power BI, Excel, SQL, and OLAP.

Extensive experience in an NHS Information environment, especially under high-pressure deadlines.

Strong background in statistical techniques and data analysis, with a focus on Power BI.

Proven experience in managing and analysing large data sets, providing clear, actionable insights.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Supervisory experience within an NHS information environment.

Knowledge of SQL, Power Automate, Power Apps, and Microsoft Project.

Familiarity with healthcare data systems and the ability to interpret complex healthcare data.
