UWE Bristol is seeking a dynamic Senior Lecturer in Environmental Biology to join our School of Applied Sciences for a temporary six-month maternity leave cover. About the Role
As a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Biology at UWE Bristol, you will contribute to teaching across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in environmental science and conservation science. Your responsibilities will include developing and delivering high-quality teaching across core modules such as Wildlife Ecology and Environmental Science, alongside supervising research projects for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
This role may also include the opportunity to lead the BSc Integrated Wildlife Conservation program or act as Link Tutor for our partner organization, Bristol Zoological Society, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Deliver engaging lessons on undergraduate modules such as Life on Earth and Professional Work Skills, with potential for teaching across other biological science programs.
- Research Contribution: Engage with research projects within the School of Applied Sciences, particularly within the Centre for Sustainable Agri-Food and Environment (SAFE).
- Curriculum Development: Contribute to the design and development of environmental science and conservation science curricula.
- Supervision: Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in environmental and conservation sciences.
- Program Leadership: Opportunity to lead programs such as the BSc Integrated Wildlife Conservation (top-up).
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced educator with a strong background in environmental biology and conservation science. You should have a science-based PhD (or relevant experience in the field), alongside a passion for teaching and a commitment to academic excellence.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- PhD in Biological Science (or relevant Master’s qualification with significant professional practice experience).
- Experience in teaching at a Higher Education Institution (HEI), including curriculum design, assessment, and research supervision.
- Strong knowledge of environmental science and conservation biology, with a broad understanding of their real-world applications.
- Leadership abilities to motivate students and colleagues, with a focus on fostering a positive learning environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in teaching and research.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in leading modules or programs in environmental science or conservation science.
- Experience in research related to environmental sustainability or conservation.
