Role Overview
The Risk Lead will play a critical role in shaping the future of risk management at Cambridge University Press & Assessment. You will lead the risk management efforts across high-stakes exam products and services, managing risk assessment campaigns, assurance reviews, and contributing to the design and launch of new assessment products.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a hybrid environment, spending two days per week in our office in Cambridge while taking ownership of risk management practices across the department. You will work closely with stakeholders, ensuring compliance and governance, while acting as the Risk Champion to foster a strong culture of risk management across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
As the Risk Lead, your role will involve a variety of high-impact tasks and responsibilities:
Leadership and Responsibility

Lead Risk Management Initiatives: Take ownership of the risk management framework and guidelines, ensuring risks within the Exam Technology department are effectively managed and mitigated.

Drive Cultural Change: Lead by example, embedding risk management best practices and fostering a proactive approach to risk within the team and across the organization.

Develop and Implement Risk Strategies: Collaborate with key stakeholders to create and implement strategies that align with organizational goals while addressing potential risks.
Governance & Compliance

Third-Party Investigations: Work closely with third-party vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements, such as GDPR.

Risk Assessments & Reviews: Lead ongoing risk assessment campaigns, assurance reviews, and risk reporting to identify emerging risks and provide actionable insights.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all activities adhere to industry standards and regulations, promoting a culture of governance and accountability within the organization.
Stakeholder Collaboration

Build Strong Relationships: Develop and nurture trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth communication and effective risk management collaboration.

Facilitate Risk Discussions: Organize and lead discussions with stakeholders to ensure all risk management processes are understood and properly implemented across the department.

Integrate Risk Management into Daily Operations: Work across teams to integrate risk management practices into everyday activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Communicating and Influencing

Clear Communication: Convey complex risk-related topics in an understandable way to a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring clarity and engagement.

Influence Decision-Makers: Use your expertise to influence decision-makers, guiding them toward effective prevention measures, controls, and solutions to manage risks.
About You
We are looking for a strategic and collaborative leader with a proven background in risk management, project management, or assurance. You should be passionate about creating effective risk management strategies that support the achievement of organizational goals. While a formal qualification in risk management is not required, the ability to manage complex risk landscapes is essential. We will provide support for professional development and further your risk expertise.
Key Skills and Experience:

Risk Management Frameworks: Familiarity with ISO 31000, NIST, and COSO frameworks.

Integrated Risk and Quality Management: Knowledge of integrated processes and their application in high-stakes environments.

Cybersecurity Principles: Understanding of threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, and incident response.

Incident Management: Experience in detection, response, recovery, and post-incident analysis.

Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge: Awareness of regulations such as GDPR and other external requirements.

IT Infrastructure and Architecture: Knowledge of networks, servers, databases, and cloud services.
