Job Overview

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust (IWT) and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU) are collaborating to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Research Manager. This key role offers the chance to lead a diverse team of professionals supporting clinical research activities across multiple specialties. The Research Manager will oversee the Research Office function, ensuring high standards of study design, execution, and compliance while fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

As Research Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the Research Office and working closely with the Research & Development (R&D) Manager to ensure the efficient operation of the department. You will:

  • Lead and manage a dynamic team to ensure effective study progression.
  • Provide leadership on quality assurance and compliance, particularly with investigator-led clinical trials and studies.
  • Develop and implement strategic direction for the Research Office, ensuring alignment with wider departmental goals.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

Operational Oversight

The Research Manager plays a critical role in the day-to-day running of the Research Office. You will:

  • Ensure all research activities meet regulatory and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with other NHS Trusts, commercial partners, and academic institutions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on study progression.
  • Work closely with the R&D Manager to adjust priorities based on department needs.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

This role involves extensive collaboration across multiple sites. Key duties include:

  • Supporting the coordination of externally funded studies and ensuring compliance with research quality management systems.
  • Traveling between IWT and PHU locations, as well as to external meetings when required.
  • Encouraging and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external partners.

Key Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in clinical research management, particularly within a healthcare or NHS setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of research compliance, including regulatory frameworks and ethical guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Desirable

  • Experience with investigator-led clinical trials.
  • Familiarity with the single corporate service model.
  • Ability to work flexibly across different locations.
