About the Role

The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) is seeking a highly creative and talented English Commentary Writer (ECW) for The Guru Granth Sahib Project (TGGSP). This role involves drafting both long and short form commentaries on compositions from the Guru Granth Sahib for a global audience. The ECW must understand the context of the materials to support TGGSP’s strategic initiative of reaching a broader audience. This position requires a deep interest in the Sikh faith, with a focus on curiosity and reverence in commentary, avoiding prescriptive or closed interpretations.

Job Title: English Commentary Writer

Location: Remote, Work from Anywhere

Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Study and Drafting: Read and study the compositions before and during the writing process.
  • Collaboration: Work with the Lead Commentator to draft versions and prepare final versions for publication.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure logical flow in all writings produced.
  • Feedback and Improvement: Attend feedback sessions and make necessary revisions.
  • Professional Development: Attend training sessions and workshops as required.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Degree in humanities, religious studies, or creative writing.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of world religious systems and mysticism.
  • Critical reading, thinking, and writing skills.
  • Resilience and the ability to accept constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Additional proficiency in Panjabi is preferred.
