Role Overview
As a Design Team Manager at Canonical, you will play a crucial role in making open source software accessible globally. You will lead the Brand & Marketing Design team, ensuring the Canonical and Ubuntu brands are expressed consistently and effectively, particularly across web touchpoints. Your expertise in visual and UX design, combined with your experience in managing delivery teams, will be vital in guiding your team towards high-quality outcomes and professional growth.

Location: Remote (Based in the EMEA region)
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Review the work of your design team for quality and support their professional growth.
- Operational Workflows: Continuously improve workflows, including production outsourcing and collaboration with Web Engineering.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with stakeholders, especially Marketing and the Head of Brand, to define and validate outcomes.
- Design Systems: Evolve design systems and guidelines to drive consistent quality and improve efficiency.
- Practice Maturation: Coordinate with design leadership to mature collective practices.
- Community Engagement: Engage the open source community to learn and demonstrate the value of our work.
Daily Activities
- Quality Reviews: Regularly review team outputs for quality assurance.
- Professional Development: Work with designers to support their growth and development.
- Workflow Improvements: Implement and refine operational workflows.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders to define goals and outcomes.
- Design System Evolution: Enhance design systems for consistency and efficiency.
- Team Coordination: Lead collective practice improvements with design leadership.
- Community Interaction: Engage with the open source community to learn and share work.

Essential Skills and Experience:
- Portfolio: Demonstrates quality in UI design, particularly visual design.
- Educational Background: Exceptional achievements in design or related behavioral science.
- Lifecycle Experience: Experience from user needs discovery through to implementation.
- Project Management: Commitment to transparent project delivery and meeting deadlines.
- Team Management: Experience managing a team that interacts with technical stakeholders.
- Optimization Approaches: Familiarity with quantitative optimization methods.
- Balancing Consistency and Innovation: Passion for maintaining consistency while fostering innovation.
- Travel: Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
