Key Responsibilities
1. Food Preparation and Service

Assist the Head Chef in the preparation of meals for patients, ensuring the highest standards of food quality and safety.

Supervise the assembly of ingredients and manage the preparation of disposables and vegetables.

Ensure adherence to HACCP procedures for food safety, including proper food storage and handling practices.
2. Team Leadership and Supervision
-
Oversee and manage kitchen staff, ensuring they follow all Hygiene and Health & Safety procedures at all times.

Provide support and guidance to staff to ensure effective task delegation and work efficiency.

Promote a positive and professional image of the kitchen team, both within the hospital and to external visitors.
3. Hygiene and Safety Compliance

Ensure the kitchen maintains high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, in compliance with Food Safety Legislation.

Monitor and enforce strict health and safety regulations in the kitchen environment.

Participate in regular training sessions to stay updated with food safety and Hygiene certifications.
4. Continuous Improvement

Work closely with the Operations Manager and Head Chef to enhance operational efficiency, optimize menu offerings, and improve service delivery.

Provide recommendations to improve kitchen practices and develop new strategies to maintain excellent service standards.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications and Skills
-
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Supervisory Management, Food Preparation, or Catering.

Intermediate/Level 3 Food Safety Hygiene Certificate.

Extensive experience in a supervisory role within a large commercial catering environment.

Ability to lead and motivate a team, ensuring the highest food standards and efficiency.

Strong organizational and decision-making skills, enabling effective task delegation.
Desirable Experience

Knowledge of large-scale catering systems, including cook-freeze and cook-chill systems.

Awareness of portion control and waste management practices.
-
Experience working in a healthcare catering setting or similar large-volume production environment.
