  • Lecturer: £37,100 to £41,732 per annum (with the opportunity to progress to £45,585)

Introduction

The University of Worcester is expanding its Worcester Business School and is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join the Department of Management & Finance as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Business and HR. Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching and Curriculum Development

  • Develop and deliver engaging learning, teaching, and assessment activities for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with a focus on HR, Organizational Behavior (OB), Employment Law, and Industrial Relations.

  • Set, mark, and assess coursework and examinations; provide detailed feedback to students, helping them enhance their academic performance.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refresh curriculum materials, ensuring the content remains relevant and reflective of contemporary business and HR trends.

2. Supervision and Student Support

  • Provide high-quality academic advice and guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students, helping them develop critical thinking and study skills.

  • Supervise student dissertations and projects, supporting students through their academic journey.

  • Engage in student-centred teaching methods such as role-playing, case study reviews, and group problem-solving to encourage active participation and learning.

3. Scholarship and Professional Practice

  • Contribute to the advancement of the department’s scholarship, knowledge exchange, and professional practice.

  • Engage in research, consultancy, and knowledge transfer initiatives, collaborating with external partners and professional bodies to enhance the University’s profile.

  • Contribute to executive education and client-based projects, showcasing your professional expertise and helping to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

4. Quality Enhancement and Academic Leadership

  • Reflect on teaching practices and contribute to quality monitoring, ensuring continuous improvement in the learning experience.

  • Mentor and support colleagues, helping to foster a collaborative and supportive academic environment within the Business School.

  • Participate in professional development activities to keep up-to-date with advancements in HRM, business, and pedagogy.

5. Administrative and Outreach Duties

  • Attend and contribute to meetings, committees, and events such as Open Days and Applicant Days, promoting Worcester Business School and its courses to prospective students.

  • Take on administrative tasks as assigned by the Head of Department, ensuring smooth operations within the department.

Key Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in Business, HRM, or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrable experience in teaching and developing curriculum in HRM or related areas at undergraduate or postgraduate levels.

  • Contemporary knowledge of HRM theories, practices, and industrial relations.

  • Proven ability to engage students with innovative pedagogical methods and to inspire learning through interactive activities.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple teaching and administrative responsibilities.

Desirable:

  • Experience in course development and leadership in academic settings.

  • Active involvement in scholarship and professional practice, particularly in relation to HRM.

  • Previous experience of teaching in online, blended, or work-based learning environments.

  • Membership or affiliation with professional bodies related to HRM or Business (e.g., CIPD).

Application Process

Selection Method: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a formal panel interview and will be required to deliver a 20-minute teaching session on a relevant topic in Business or HRM. During the session, candidates will demonstrate their student-centred teaching methods and provide evidence of their understanding of academic content and pedagogy. The session will be assessed by a small panel of faculty members who will role-play as students.
