Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning:
- Deliver engaging, research-informed lectures and workshops in journalism and media production.
- Design and assess innovative assignments and projects that mirror industry expectations.
- Provide academic supervision and guidance to undergraduate students undertaking final-year projects, dissertations, and creative portfolios.
- Participate in curriculum review, module development, and quality enhancement initiatives.
Industry Engagement:
- Translate real-world journalism experience into compelling classroom learning.
- Build and maintain strong connections with local, national, and international media organizations.
- Coordinate guest lectures, live briefs, and networking events to enhance employability prospects.
- Facilitate student internships, placements, and exposure to professional work environments.
Research & Scholarly Activity:
- Engage in ongoing research, practice-based inquiry, or professional scholarship in journalism, media, or digital storytelling.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the School of the Arts and beyond to publish work and develop funding bids.
- Present findings at conferences, industry panels, and university events.
- Inspire a research-active culture by mentoring students and junior colleagues.
Academic Administration:
- Contribute to academic advising, student recruitment activities, and applicant engagement.
- Participate in university committees, accreditation reviews, and teaching observation schemes.
- Play an active role in promoting inclusive education and decolonized curriculum practices.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrable professional experience in journalism, ideally with a focus on broadcast or multimedia storytelling.
- Sound understanding of media law, press regulation, ethical frameworks, and journalistic integrity.
- Prior experience delivering training, workshops, or lectures within an academic or professional setting.
- Ability to foster a supportive, interactive learning environment for a diverse student cohort.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a commitment to continuous learning and reflection.
Desirable:
- Specialization or experience in sports journalism or live event coverage.
- Technical skills in multi-camera studio operations, editing suites, or outside broadcast setups.
- Active presence or content creation experience on social platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
- Experience producing podcasts, vlogs, or interactive digital content.
