Department Overview: The English Language Hub

The English Language Hub at Arden University plays a pivotal role in supporting non-native English speakers to thrive in their academic journey. We are currently expanding and excited to welcome a skilled and passionate Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to our brand-new Nottingham campus.

Our department focuses on delivering tailored EAP courses and support that enhances academic literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills — essential for student success in higher education.


Position Summary: Lecturer in English (EAP)

This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver English for Academic Purposes at various academic levels. As a Lecturer, you will develop innovative curricula, provide direct teaching through workshops, modules, and one-to-one support, and contribute to the overall strategic growth of Arden’s English provision.

You will report directly to Senior EAP Lecturers and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the university to align your work with institutional goals, quality standards, and student satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities of the Lecturer in English Role

Deliver High-Quality EAP Teaching and Support

  • Design and teach EAP/ESAP courses tailored to diverse L2 learner needs in higher education contexts.

  • Employ a range of pedagogical approaches, including blended and digital learning, to maximize student engagement and academic outcomes.

  • Conduct regular assessment and evaluation of student progress with constructive feedback to foster improvement.

Curriculum Development and Quality Management

  • Lead curriculum design, resource development, and implementation of innovative teaching materials aligned with Arden’s academic standards.

  • Participate actively in quality assurance processes, ensuring compliance with university policies and accreditation requirements.

  • Collaborate in continuous module review and enhancement to maintain relevance and rigor.

Academic Administration and Coordination

  • Maintain comprehensive teaching records, manage scheduling, and participate in academic committees.

  • Coordinate closely with other academic and support departments to facilitate seamless student experiences.

  • Support assessment moderation, examination preparations, and academic integrity initiatives.

Student Engagement and Campus Presence

  • Serve as a visible and approachable figure on campus, promoting EAP services and fostering a supportive learning environment.

  • Provide targeted one-on-one coaching and support for EAL students struggling with academic English challenges.

  • Develop outreach programs and workshops that align with the university’s mission to widen access and success.

Professional Development and Team Collaboration

  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay abreast of latest trends in TESOL, linguistics, and HE pedagogy.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Academic and Professional Credentials

  • Master’s degree in English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related discipline.

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience delivering EAP instruction to diverse L2 learners within higher education.

  • Proven track record in curriculum design, blended learning techniques, and digital resource development.

Core Skills and Knowledge

  • Expertise in English grammar, second language acquisition theories, and current higher education policies relevant to EAP.

  • Strong digital literacy and ability to integrate technology into teaching and assessment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.


Desirable Qualifications

  • CELTA or equivalent teaching certification.

  • Additional EFL/EAP specialized certifications.

  • HE teaching qualification or membership in Advance HE Fellowship scheme (or commitment to attain within 12 months).

  • Experience supporting varied learner profiles and adapting teaching methods accordingly.

The Working Model: Flexible Hybrid Arrangement

This role operates on a hybrid working model combining remote working with regular campus presence in Nottingham. The position may require travel to Arden University’s other UK locations including Coventry, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, and London campuses to support teaching and collaboration.

The hybrid model provides flexibility while ensuring that lecturers remain engaged with the student community and university operations on-site.
