Job Overview

Aston Business School seeks an inspirational and motivated individual to join the Accounting and Finance Department as a Lecturer in Accounting. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the department’s research, teaching, and PhD/DBA supervision efforts.

As part of Aston’s growth strategy, you will help shape the department’s research direction, focusing on key areas such as accounting governance, management accounting, decision-making, and taxation. The department is home to two specialized research units focused on public sector governance and sustainability accounting, along with a Research Centre in Personal Financial Wellbeing and a Research Group in Fraud.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Curriculum Development: Lead and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate accounting courses. Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring it remains relevant and rigorous.

  • Research & Publication: Engage in applied and empirical research, particularly in the department’s core research areas. Publish in reputable journals and collaborate with colleagues to attract external funding and research council income.

  • Supervision & Mentorship: Supervise PhD and DBA students, supporting their academic growth and research activities.

  • Leadership & Collaboration: For senior-level candidates, there may be opportunities to take a leadership role in developing one or more of the department’s research foci, making a significant impact on Aston’s reputation and research profile.

  • External Engagement: Foster strong links with industry and government organizations to enhance the department’s external profile and contribute to policy development and public sector reporting.


Qualifications & Skills

To be considered for the Lecturer in Accounting role at Aston University, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualifications: A good first degree and a Master’s degree in a relevant academic discipline. A PhD in Accounting or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Professional Qualifications: Relevant professional accounting qualifications are advantageous.

  • Teaching Experience: Proven experience in teaching at university level, with a focus on accounting or related subjects. Teaching qualifications would be beneficial.
