About Us
The Institute of Prion Diseases at UCL is one of the world’s leading research centres focused on prions and their connection to neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. With a multidisciplinary approach, the Institute integrates structural biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, and clinical research, aiming to expand understanding of protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases.
The Institute is backed by a significant £30 million joint investment from the MRC and UCL, which has provided a state-of-the-art facility in central London for furthering groundbreaking research. Led by Professor John Collinge FRS, the Institute employs approximately 90 staff members working across two sites, funded by a mix of MRC core funding, UCL funding, and external grants.
