Key Responsibilities of the Home and Community Care Worker
As a Home and Community Care Worker, you will provide high-quality care for individuals in their homes and the community. Your duties will focus on ensuring the comfort, safety, and well-being of clients with a variety of needs, including those with learning disabilities, mental health challenges, and elderly individuals. Below are some of your key responsibilities:
Personal Care and Support
- Assist clients with personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, ensuring their dignity and comfort.
- Medication administration as directed by healthcare professionals, ensuring adherence to treatment plans.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering a positive and nurturing environment.
- Meal preparation according to dietary needs, ensuring clients receive balanced and appropriate meals.
Mobility and Housekeeping Support
- Assist with mobility and transfers, using mobility aids where necessary to help clients move safely and comfortably.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning and maintaining a safe and tidy environment for the clients.
Care Planning and Communication
- Follow detailed care plans and update any changes or concerns to the healthcare team to ensure the highest level of care is provided.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to offer holistic care to clients, meeting both their physical and emotional needs.
Community and Social Support
- Support individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health conditions to engage with the community and lead fulfilling lives.
- Ensure clients have access to meaningful activities that help them integrate and participate in community life.
Required Qualifications and Experience
We are seeking candidates with experience in healthcare, particularly working with individuals with learning disabilities, mental health needs, and other specialized care requirements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a compassionate and patient nature while following procedures with precision and professionalism.
Experience and Skills
- At least one year of experience in care work, specifically with individuals with learning disabilities or mental health challenges.
- Strong knowledge of caregiving principles and practices, including medication administration and personal care.
- The ability to use mobility aids and assist clients with mobility and transfers.
- Strong communication skills to effectively build rapport with clients and collaborate with healthcare professionals.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and client needs.
- Experience with electronic monitoring and recording systems is a plus.
Desirable Qualifications
- Positive Behavioral Support and PMWA training (preferred but not essential).
- Driving License and personal car ownership (required for travel between client locations).
- UK work authorization (required for candidates applying from within the UK).
