Key Responsibilities:

As a Highways Electrician, your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Electrical Installation & Maintenance: Installing and maintaining street lighting, including LED technology and lighting columns.
  • Testing & Inspections: Carrying out electrical testing and inspections to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Asset Data Collection & Surveying: Collecting asset data, surveying locations, and ensuring proper records (e.g., TR22).
  • Planned & Reactive Maintenance: Performing both planned and emergency maintenance on street lighting systems.
  • Excavation & Reinstatement: Conducting groundwork, including excavation and reinstatement as part of lighting column installation.
  • Working at Heights: Operating MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) to work at heights for installations and repairs.
  • Emergency Call-Outs: Being available for emergency call-outs, standby, and occasional overtime.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Street Lighting or Highways Experience: At least 1 year of experience in street lighting or highways electrical work.
  • HGV Driving Licence: Required for driving heavy goods vehicles to and from job sites.
  • C&G 17th or 18th Edition (or Equivalent): A valid qualification in electrical installation is essential.
  • CSCS/ECS Card: Must hold a valid CSCS or ECS card for working on construction sites.
  • Health & Safety Certifications:
    • NRSWA Units 1 to 9 (Desirable)
    • IPAF Qualified (Desirable)
    • First Aid & Manual Handling (Desirable)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • HIAB Operations: Experience in HIAB crane operations is a plus.
  • G39 Certification: Experience with the safe operation of electrical networks is beneficial.
  • HEA Approved: Approval for working on Highways Electrical Systems is desirable.
  • Abrasive Wheels: Certification in safe use of abrasive wheels is beneficial.

Working Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday: Standard 10-hour shifts, typically 50 hours per week.
  • Weekend Availability: Some weekend work may be required.
  • Overtime: Opportunities for additional overtime depending on project needs.
