Key Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Assistant at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Registered Nurses: Work alongside registered nurses to deliver effective, compassionate, and safe care to patients, assisting with both clinical and non-clinical tasks.
  • Patient Care Delivery: Assist with the personal care of patients, ensuring their comfort and dignity are maintained at all times.
  • Ward Organization: Contribute to the organization of the ward or department, including assisting with the preparation and maintenance of care equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Act as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care.
  • Environment Management: Help ensure the environment remains safe, clean, and conducive to patient care, adhering to infection control and health & safety standards.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Observe and report any changes in patient conditions to registered nurses and other healthcare team members.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications:

  • GCSE Maths & English or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health Care or equivalent clinical qualifications.
  • Experience in basic clinical skills such as venepuncture, blood transfusion, and aseptic technique.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Direct Care.

Essential Skills:

  • Computer Literacy: Ability to use basic computer systems for patient records and communication.
  • Excellent English Communication: Proficiency in both written and verbal English.
  • Adaptability: Ability to cope with a fast-paced, changing workload in a healthcare setting.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience in a hospital setting, particularly in the specialty area of the department you’re applying to.
