Key Responsibilities
As a Healthcare Assistant at Royal Cornwall Hospitals, you will be integral to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. Below are the primary duties associated with the role:
- Patient Care Support: Assist clinical staff in providing care that is sensitive to each patient’s individual needs, ensuring their comfort and safety at all times.
- Communication & Rapport: Establish a positive rapport with patients and their families, ensuring that the patient’s needs and concerns are communicated clearly to the registered nurse.
- Health Monitoring: Help assess and understand the patient’s hygiene, nutritional, and mobility needs. Assist with personal care tasks and support patients as required.
- Topical Treatments: Apply prescribed topical treatments under the guidance and supervision of trained clinical staff.
- Teamwork: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of patient care are maintained, contributing to the overall hospital operations.
This role requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications
- Essential:
- GCSE Maths & English or equivalent
- NVQ Level 2 in Health Care (or equivalent)
- Clinical skills, such as venepuncture, blood transfusions, and aseptic techniques
- Desirable:
- NVQ Level 3 in Direct Care (or equivalent)
Experience
- Essential:
- Previous experience in a care setting, especially within a hospital environment
- Desirable:
- Experience within dermatology or a similar specialty
Skills
- Essential:
- Computer literate and capable of using relevant healthcare software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and workload
- Ability to work effectively within a team and collaborate with healthcare professionals
