Job Overview
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking highly motivated Healthcare Assistants (HCA) to join the Critical Care Unit at Royal Liverpool Hospital. This role offers an opportunity to provide essential patient care in an Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), and Post-Operative Critical Care Unit (POCCU). The position is well-suited for compassionate and dedicated individuals looking to make a difference in a fast-paced, demanding, but rewarding healthcare environment.
This role is eligible for Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) for international candidates seeking a Skilled Worker visa.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Assistance
- Assist patients with daily hygiene needs, grooming, and toileting, ensuring privacy and dignity are maintained.
- Provide support for patient mobility, including safe movement and handling under hospital guidelines.
- Assist with meals, drinks, and snacks, including feeding patients who require additional support.
- Work alongside registered nurses to prevent pressure sore development and promote patient comfort.
- Provide end-of-life care and assist in performing last offices.
Clinical Support & Safety
- Maintain strict adherence to Infection Prevention and Control policies.
- Ensure that patient environments are clean, safe, and well-organized.
- Assist in stock control, equipment maintenance, and overall ward organization.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care.
- Respond to patient and family inquiries with empathy and professionalism.
- Maintain accurate documentation and communicate clearly with the team.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Willingness & capability to undertake NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent healthcare training).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively in a high-pressure hospital environment.
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- Previous experience in a caring role or healthcare setting.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.
- Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships in a healthcare setting.
- Commitment to maintaining a high standard of patient care.
