About the Role
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is seeking a passionate and skilled Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join the dedicated nursing team on the Children’s Unit. This unit provides specialized care across various areas, including:
- 19 inpatient beds (1 High Dependency and 3 Enhanced Care beds).
- 6 Assessment Unit beds.
- 6 Medical/Surgical Day Case beds.
- 2 Oncology beds.
As an integral team member, you’ll provide compassionate care and support to children, young people, and their families under the supervision of registered nurses.

Salary: £24,433 – £26,060 per annum
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with direct and indirect care for children, young people, and families in line with care plans.
- Supervise and care for children admitted under the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team.
- Ensure effective communication about care plans and any observations to the nursing team.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients and staff.
Essential Requirements
- Qualifications:
- QCF Level 3 or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or a related field.
- Good knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Experience:
- Previous experience working as a Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) without direct supervision.
- Understanding of risk assessment and management.
- Skills:
- Proficient in wound care using aseptic techniques (ANTT).
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and basic observations.
- Clear and accurate communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek clinical advice.
Desirable Skills
- Welsh language proficiency.
- Experience with clinical tasks such as venepuncture, routine ECG recording, and urine testing.
- Familiarity with clinic activities and IT systems.
