Overview of the Role

Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest and most reputable NHS trusts in the UK, is seeking an experienced Faculty Finance Manager to join their dynamic finance team. As a Faculty Finance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of capital accounts within the finance department, providing expert financial leadership and ensuring accurate financial reporting. Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and manage the finance accounts team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of financial data.

  • Collaborate with other finance teams across the Trust to maintain high standards in reporting and performance.

  • Manage and oversee the monthly and year-end production of national performance returns and statutory accounts.

Capital Accounting and Fixed Asset Management

  • Oversee capital accounting for the Trust, including managing PFI (Private Finance Initiative) arrangements and finance leases.

  • Maintain and update the Capital Asset Register, ensuring that it reflects the Trust’s assets and is in line with DHSC (Department of Health and Social Care) requirements.

  • Coordinate and organize asset revaluation exercises as necessary.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Provide analytical reviews of financial positions and recommend actionable strategies based on these reviews.

  • Assist in the preparation of the Trust’s Annual Accounts, ensuring compliance with audit requirements.

  • Act as the lead for managing fixed asset reporting and compliance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) for lease agreements.

Deputy Leadership

  • Deputize for the Head of Corporate Accounts (HoCA) in their absence, representing the department in key meetings with external stakeholders.


Desired Skills and Experience

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of five years in a financial environment, with at least three years of experience in capital and financial accounting within the NHS.

  • Proven experience in managing and reporting on PFI schemes and finance leases within an NHS setting.

  • Extensive experience working with spreadsheets, databases, and handling complex financial data.

Skills

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate both qualified and non-qualified accountants.

  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Highly analytical, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.

  • Proficient in financial systems and reporting tools, ensuring high-quality financial analysis and reporting.

  • Effective communication skills, able to convey complex financial information to non-financial colleagues.

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of NHS funding, regulations, and financial coding practices.

  • Strong understanding of financial controls and the ability to maintain these within the organization.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of the challenges and developments in the NHS and broader healthcare sector.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.

  • Fully qualified CCAB (Chartered Certified Accountants, Chartered Accountants, or equivalent).

Person Specification

Experience Requirements
