About the Role
The Communications Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting regional and national communications for the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN). This position involves working closely with the Communications Manager to deliver a proactive, high-quality communications service that highlights the RDN’s impact on health and care research in England.
You will collaborate with health professionals, patients, the public, and key stakeholders to enhance the RDN’s visibility and engagement across various communication channels. This includes supporting campaigns, events, and projects aimed at improving stakeholder involvement and disseminating impactful research findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Communications Strategy: Develop, implement, and evaluate communications campaigns and events tailored to target audiences.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with health professionals, the public, academia, and other partners.
- Content Creation: Craft clear and compelling communication materials, translating complex information into engaging messages for diverse audiences.
- Policy Development: Assist in shaping local and national communication policies and best practices.
- Digital Media Management: Utilize social media, web-based platforms, and newsletters to disseminate RDN updates effectively.
- Project Support: Launch new initiatives focused on public engagement and showcasing research impact.

The NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN), launching in October 2024, builds on the success of the Clinical Research Network. The RDN focuses on supporting clinical trials, public health studies, and health research across England, benefiting patients, the healthcare system, and the economy. Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
- Essential: Degree-level education or equivalent experience in communications, media, journalism, or related fields.
- Desirable: Background in health, research, or science; European Computer Driving Licence.
Experience
- Essential:
- Proven experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism.
- Experience with social media and digital platforms.
- Working in large, complex organizations and managing multiple stakeholders.
- Delivering customer-focused services.
- Desirable:
- NHS or healthcare communications experience.
- Familiarity with health and care research environments.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
