All Saints Surgery is seeking a dedicated Business/Operations Manager to join our team in Burton-on-Trent. Key Responsibilities
As the Business/Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the practice, managing staff, and ensuring that all tasks and functions align with the practice’s strategic goals. Your leadership will guide the team in creating a safe, efficient, and productive work environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
Leadership and Staff Management
- Support the Practice Manager in the day-to-day operations and ensure the team is meeting their key responsibilities.
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, ensuring adherence to all policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Oversee the administrative functions of QOF (Quality and Outcomes Framework), liaising with GPs, nursing staff, and administrators.
- Lead staff recruitment, including pre-employment checks, DBS checks, and onboarding new employees.
Operational Compliance and Strategy
- Implement and monitor systems to ensure compliance with CQC (Care Quality Commission) regulations and quality standards.
- Update job descriptions and person specifications to ensure staff are legally employed and their roles are clearly defined.
- Ensure staff training and development, maintaining comprehensive records of ongoing professional development.
- Develop and implement staff appraisal processes and a practice development plan.
Clinical and IT Systems Management
- Manage the clinical system to ensure IT security, confidentiality, and compliance with information governance regulations.
- Troubleshoot local IT issues and promote the use of patient online services for better service delivery.
- Review and update clinical templates to align with current best practices.
Practice Marketing and Patient Engagement
- Act as the focal point for updating the practice website and managing social media presence.
- Promote the practice to maintain or increase the patient population, ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
Health and Safety Management
- Oversee the management of premises health and safety, ensuring risk assessments and training are completed as required.
- Guide the team in achieving QOF targets and support efforts to resolve patient DNA (Did Not Attend) issues.
Secondary Responsibilities
In addition to the core responsibilities, the Business/Operations Manager may also be required to:
- Deputise for the Practice Manager in their absence.
- Lead the Patient Participation Group and manage the complaints process, ensuring complaints are handled appropriately and escalated when necessary.
- Monitor safety alerts and manage communication regarding significant events within the practice.
- Support the practice clinical governance framework and submit relevant reports to comply with CQRS and other reporting tools.
- Assist in the continuous improvement initiatives and any necessary changes to operational processes.
Required Qualifications and Skills

- Proven management experience, ideally in an operations or business management role within a healthcare setting.
- Strong supervisory skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team to achieve organizational goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively interact with staff, patients, and external stakeholders.
Desirable Skills
- Project management and team coordination experience, with a track record of leading successful initiatives.
- Familiarity with performance metrics and process improvement strategies to drive operational excellence.
- Proficiency in managing staff development and implementing efficient operational strategies.
Additional Requirements
- A valid driving license is preferred, although not mandatory.
- GCSE or equivalent (preferred).
- Ability to commute reliably or plan to relocate to Burton-on-Trent.
