Job Summary

The Division of CSS at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DBTH) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Manager to work alongside the General Manager (GM) for CSS. This role is crucial in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient services and driving service improvements across the division.

The successful candidate will support the GM in developing and executing service strategies, managing risks, and meeting key performance targets in line with national agreements. This secondment also provides an opportunity to gain experience in a different environment, working closely with other Business Managers within the team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Service Delivery Management
    Act as a highly visible leader, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of services while optimizing resource use to maintain high patient care standards.

    • Build strong relationships with Clinical Leads and Matrons.

    • Lead operational aspects of delegated divisional areas, ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations.

  • Strategic Support
    Collaborate with the GM, Clinical Leads, and Matrons to define and implement the strategic direction of services.

    • Facilitate the achievement of key performance targets, including Clinical Quality Indicators.

    • Deputise for the GM when required, ensuring continuity of leadership and service delivery.

  • Staff Management and Development
    Lead and motivate administration staff within the division, fostering a positive work environment to achieve high performance levels.

    • Ensure all HR initiatives, such as Agenda for Change and associated policies, are effectively implemented across the division.

    • Manage resources efficiently to improve productivity and quality.

  • Service Improvement and Performance
    Take responsibility for implementing performance and service improvement policies.

    • Support the GM in the operational delivery of key divisional services, working to continuously enhance the quality of care and operational efficiency.

    • Actively monitor and manage the achievement of national healthcare targets.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven track record of senior management experience, particularly in financial and HR management, performance management, and project management.

  • In-depth knowledge of the NHS environment, with the ability to navigate its complexities, including strategic and business planning.

  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and drive organizational change.

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet healthcare targets and manage operational challenges within a healthcare setting.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a management-related field or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in NHS service development and reconfiguration.

  • Involvement in national or regional policy development and understanding of NHS system reforms.
