An exciting opportunity is available to join the Integrated Laboratory Medicine (ILM) directorate as an Assistant Operational Service Manager. This role supports senior managers in managing equipment contracts, enhancing service provision, and achieving operational efficiencies. Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Management:
    • Support departmental managers in day-to-day management of established managed equipment service contracts (MESCs).
    • Oversee equipment refresh processes and novation of equipment to achieve cost savings and efficiency improvements.
    • Act as a liaison with contract holders, primary suppliers, third parties, and internal departments like finance and procurement.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide accurate and up-to-date costing for departmental operations.
    • Collaborate with senior managers across the Trust to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Project Involvement:
    • Contribute to the business and commercial functions within ILM.
    • Support ongoing and future interdependent projects across the directorate.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent, supplemented by postgraduate-level specialist training or equivalent experience.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Operational, financial, and people management expertise.
  • Understanding of emergency and elective admissions processes.
  • Experience in service strategy, business planning, and performance management.
  • Line management experience.

Desirable Knowledge & Experience:

  • Project management experience.
  • Development of complex business cases with financial and statistical analysis.
  • Service modernization and redesign.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including the MS Office Suite.
  • Effective negotiation and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage change and practice development.
