Job Summary

As an Assistant Finance Analyst, you will support the finance team with the analysis of general ledger transactions, budgeting, forecasting, and business planning. You will work closely with budget holders and senior finance professionals to ensure financial transactions meet all necessary compliance and reporting standards.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Transactions and Reporting

  • General Ledger Management: Monitor and process financial transactions within the Trust’s general ledger. Ensure data integrity and compliance with internal financial procedures.

  • Transaction Reviews: Review financial transactions to ensure correct processing and adherence to audit standards.

  • Budget Management: Upload and manage budget journals, including salary, WTE budgets, and other financial adjustments.

  • Reconciliations: Perform monthly reconciliations of budget movements, forecast changes, and balance sheets. Ensure all payroll records are reconciled with the Employee Staff Records (ESR) system.

  • Invoicing and Documentation: Raise invoices and maintain documentation to support financial transactions.

  • Payroll Processing: Process payroll-related journals, accruals, and adjustments, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.

Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaboration with Finance Teams: Work closely with finance business partners, senior analysts, and other key stakeholders to provide financial data and analysis in support of operational and strategic decisions.

  • Audit and Compliance: Assist in internal audit processes and the implementation of improvements to financial controls based on audit recommendations.

  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of internal financial procedures and systems.

Month-End and Year-End Processes

  • Report Preparation: Assist in preparing monthly and year-end financial reports. Ensure reports are delivered on time, meeting both internal and external deadlines.

  • Financial Planning: Support the Trust’s budgeting, forecasting, and business planning process, providing financial data to senior management teams.

About You: Essential Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

  • Essential: NVQ Level 4 or Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) at Technician level or equivalent experience relevant to the role.

  • Desirable: Experience within financial management, particularly in the healthcare sector.

Experience

  • Essential: Proven experience within management accounts or financial transaction processing, particularly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

  • Desirable: Previous financial management experience, especially in the NHS or public sector.

Skills and Competencies

  • Essential:

    • Strong understanding of financial systems, policies, and procedures.

    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of work.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Excel.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams.

  • Desirable: Experience with Power BI and other data analytics tools.
