About This Opportunity
Westmorland & Furness Council is seeking a dedicated Adult Learning Tutor to join their team and play a pivotal role in improving lives through education. In this permanent, full-time position, you’ll be delivering a variety of learning programs aimed at empowering individuals across the region. The role is based in Penrith, but will involve travel across the area, from Alston to Kirkby Stephen and Glenridding, teaching learners with diverse backgrounds.
Every day brings a new challenge. You’ll work with a variety of learners, including those referred by the Job Centre, individuals recovering from addiction or mental health issues, and learners with English as an Additional Language. You will deliver courses in areas such as mental health and wellbeing, communication skills, food hygiene, and safeguarding, among others. This position primarily involves face-to-face teaching but may also involve online sessions for more remote communities.

Key Responsibilities
As an Adult Learning Tutor at Westmorland & Furness Council, your role will include:

Delivering face-to-face lessons across a range of topics including employability skills, wellbeing, and soft skills development.

Supporting learners referred by external agencies such as the Job Centre, people recovering from mental health issues or addiction, and those seeking new opportunities to develop their skills.

Providing individualized support to learners from diverse backgrounds and learning needs, ensuring that they can achieve their learning goals.

Planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality, engaging lessons that meet the requirements of the Level 2 qualifications in areas such as Food Hygiene, Safeguarding, and Soft Skills.

Assessing learners’ progress, providing feedback, and helping them achieve personal and professional goals.

Working collaboratively with colleagues to continuously improve the learning experience for all participants.

Supporting online learning for more remote and hard-to-reach communities, ensuring that all students have access to learning, regardless of their location.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with external partners and agencies to ensure a seamless learning experience for all students.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
To be considered for this role, applicants should have:

A teaching qualification (or be working towards one) such as PTLLS, CTLLS, or a similar qualification.

Classroom experience in teaching Employability and Wellbeing courses is essential.

Experience teaching adults and working with learners from diverse backgrounds is highly desirable.

An understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable learners, including those recovering from addiction, depression, or with English as an Additional Language.

A strong commitment to student welfare, with the ability to motivate and support learners.

The ability to work flexibly and creatively, delivering engaging learning experiences for all.

A basic DBS check is required for the role.
