Key Responsibilities of the Senior Finance Analyst

Financial Planning and Budgeting

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive financial plans and forecasts in partnership with budget holders, clinical teams, and divisional managers.

  • Lead the annual budget setting process, ensuring alignment with ABUHB’s strategic financial goals.

  • Provide expert financial advice to support operational and capital business cases, including investment appraisals and cost-benefit analysis.

Financial Reporting and Performance Management

  • Produce detailed periodic financial reports to identify budget variances and recommend corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with budget holders and the Business Partner Accountant to ensure financial targets are met.

  • Utilize business intelligence tools, such as service line reporting and patient-level costing, to link financial outcomes with service delivery performance.

Policy Development and Financial Governance

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures that support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with NHS financial regulations, audit requirements, and accounting standards.

  • Support and train non-finance managers on financial control, budget management, and interpretation of financial data.

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Work closely with senior decision-makers to develop long-term financial strategies for sustainable service delivery.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.

  • Part-qualified (CCAB) accountant with a solid grounding in accounting principles and NHS financial frameworks.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a finance department, preferably in healthcare or public sector.

  • Proficient user of Oracle Financials and iProcurement or equivalent financial management systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with budget holders and deliver customer-focused financial advice.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling), PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Strong analytical and numerical abilities, capable of interpreting complex financial data.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
