Key Responsibilities
As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will undertake a range of essential tasks to support the clinical team and ensure that patients’ needs are met effectively. Below are the main duties associated with this role:
1. Patient Care Assistance
- Support patients to achieve physical, spiritual, and psychological comfort.
- Assist with the delivery of patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.
- Report any changes in a patient’s condition promptly to the nurse in charge.
2. Clinical and Administrative Duties
- Exchange factual information with patients using empathy, persuasion, and tact.
- Assist with patients’ nutritional needs, including feeding assistance.
- Record and maintain accurate patient documentation, including observations like fluid balance, blood glucose levels, and stool charts.
3. Team Collaboration
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Participate actively in ward meetings and contribute to the smooth operation of the department.
- Ensure all accidents, incidents, and complaints are reported and assist in investigations.
4. Environment and Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Ensure stock levels are monitored and maintain the cleanliness of medical equipment.
- Assist with basic clinical tasks, such as performing blood glucose monitoring (BM).

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well within a team and maintain positive relationships with patients and colleagues.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to complete documentation accurately.
- Desirable:
- Ability to speak Welsh is an advantage, but not essential.
