Program Overview

The 2025 WACSI Next Generation Internship is a fully funded internship designed to provide young West Africans with practical experience in civil society and non-profit management. Hosted by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and supported by the Ford Foundation, this six-month program offers selected interns the opportunity to work closely with WACSI teams, gain leadership skills, and contribute to social impact initiatives in West Africa.

Internship Details

  • Duration: January to June 2025 (6 months)
  • Location: Ghana or Nigeria
  • Target Audience: Fresh graduates or early career professionals from Nigeria, Senegal, and Cape Verde with an interest in leveraging technology for social impact.

Interns will be fully involved in WACSI activities, contributing to programme management, research, and policy development. They will have the opportunity to develop skills in leadership, knowledge management, and critical development issues in West Africa.

Responsibilities of Interns

  • Institutional Support: Design and implement institutional assessment tools, and provide technical assistance for WACSI projects.
  • Programme Development: Assist in programme/project planning, proposal development, and budget monitoring.
  • Research: Conduct research on policy and legislative issues, draft reports, and prepare for policy meetings and workshops.
  • Training & Support: Assist in designing training tools (toolkits, modules) and organizing various training and technical support activities.
  • Administrative Duties: Offer general support to the team, including tracking activities, managing communication, and ensuring the smooth execution of WACSI events and programmes.
  • Documentation: Develop work plans, reports, concept notes, presentations, and budget proposals.
  • Liaison Role: Serve as a point of contact between WACSI and external partners, beneficiaries, and associates.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the 2025 WACSI Next Generation Internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Education: A minimum of a first degree in international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies, or related fields.
  • Interest: Demonstrate a passion for civil society, non-profit organization management, and social impact work.
