- Nationality: Must be a citizen of an African country. Dual nationality holders (including African countries) are also eligible.
- Academic Qualifications: Applicants must hold a completed BA degree or equivalent.
- Work Experience: Experience in research, and ideally a background in one of the following fields: academia, NGOs, business, government departments, civil society, or media.
- Interest in International Affairs: Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in international affairs and governance, aligning with the mission and research of Chatham House.
- Career Stage: Ideal candidates should be at an early-to-mid stage of their professional career.
- Full-time Commitment: Fellows are expected to work full-time during their fellowship. Thus, this program cannot be pursued alongside other studies or work commitments.
Benefits of the Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship
This fellowship offers full sponsorship, covering all major costs, including living expenses, travel, and research costs. Here’s what fellows receive:
- Generous Stipend: Fellows receive a monthly stipend of £2,365 to cover living expenses in London, including accommodation, utilities, food, transport, and other essential costs.
- Travel and Relocation Costs: All relocation expenses, including airfare, train tickets, and transportation to and from the UK, are covered. Fellows are also provided with three nights of accommodation upon arrival in London.
- Health Coverage: Fellows benefit from the UK’s Immigration Healthcare Surcharge, which grants access to the National Health Service (NHS). This allows fellows to access general healthcare, although they may still need to pay for dental, optical treatments, and prescribed medications.
- Research and Outreach Funding: The fellowship covers expenses related to fieldwork, conferences, publications, and events.
- Post-Fellowship Benefits: After completing the fellowship, fellows gain continued access to the Chatham House faculty and alumni network, as well as a five-year membership to Chatham House.
