Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Canon Foundation Kyoto University Scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Academic Qualification: Hold at least an MA degree and be employed as a post-doctoral fellow or faculty member at Kyoto University (KU) or its partner institutions.
  2. Reference Letters: Submit two reference letters:
    • One from a professional or academic reference.
    • One from the prospective host at Kyoto University, confirming available research or work facilities.
  3. Partnership Confirmation: African applicants must demonstrate an existing partnership with Kyoto University.

Scholarship Duration & Award

  • Stipend & Travel Expenses: Successful applicants will receive financial support ranging from €22,500 to €27,500 per year, pro-rated based on the research period.
  • Payment Administration: The Canon Foundation in Europe (CFE) will administer payments and provide details on the payment procedure.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents to the Kyoto University Africa Unit at africaunit@kura.kyoto-u.ac.jp:

  1. Research Plan: Include a clear title, start/end dates, and a general cost estimate (maximum 2 pages).
  2. Two Reference Letters: One academic/professional reference and one confirmation from the prospective host (maximum 1 page each).
  3. Curriculum Vitae (CV): Detailed resume with academic and professional achievements.
  4. Academic Degree Certificate: Copy of doctoral certificate or highest academic degree.
  5. Passport Photo: One passport-sized photograph.
  6. List of Publications: Chronological list of academic publications or professional achievements.
